Privacy Policy

How Clapr handles (and mostly doesn't handle) your data.

TL;DR

Clapr is a set of browser-native video and audio tools. For every tool marked "In browser" on our site — compress, convert, extract audio, subtitle conversion — your files never leave your device. There is no "upload" step; the processing happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly. We therefore never see, store, scan, or transmit the contents of your files.

What follows describes the small amount of data we do handle — account info if you sign in, anonymous usage counters, and standard server logs — and the third parties we rely on.

Who we are

Clapr is operated by the Clapr team. You can reach us at hello@clapr.app. This policy applies to the Clapr website and all tools offered under the clapr.app domain.

What we collect

  1. File contents — we do not collect these. For every tool that runs in your browser, the file stays on your device. Our servers never receive the bytes of your video, audio, or subtitle file. If a feature ever needs to send data to a server (e.g. the planned Pro transcription tier), the UI will say so explicitly before you start.

  2. Account information (only if you sign in). If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and a Google-issued user ID. That is all we store in our user table. We do not receive your Google password, contacts, calendar, or any other Google data.

  3. Anonymous usage counters. To understand which tools are popular and to enforce fair use, we keep anonymous counters keyed by a hashed IP address and a browser fingerprint. These counters record that a tool was used, not what was processed. They are not linked to your email or account.

  4. Cookies and local storage.

    • A session cookie, if you sign in.
    • Your theme preference (light/dark) and locale preference (en/zh) in localStorage.
    • We do not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies (no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no ad networks).

  5. Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard web server logs (IP address, timestamp, URL, user-agent) for operational purposes such as rate limiting and debugging. These logs are retained for a short period and are not sold or shared for marketing.

  6. Payment data — we do not collect this yet. Clapr does not currently accept payments. If the Pro tier launches, payment processing will be handled by a PCI-compliant processor (e.g. Stripe), and we will never see your full card number.

Third parties we rely on

  • Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, and DDoS protection. Cloudflare may see your IP address and request metadata as part of normal traffic routing.
  • Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google, under Google's own privacy policy.
  • Groq — will be used for the server-assisted transcription feature when it launches. No data is sent to Groq today.

We do not sell, rent, or trade any personal information to third parties.

Your rights

You can contact us at hello@clapr.app to:

  • Request a copy of the data associated with your account.
  • Ask us to delete your account and the associated email.
  • Ask us to delete server-side counters tied to your IP / fingerprint.

Because the tools run in your browser, there is usually nothing stored on our side to delete; the most effective way to delete your data is to clear your browser's site data for clapr.app.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves (for example, when the Pro tier launches). When we make a material change, we will bump the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Clapr after the update means you accept the revised policy.
