On Android, an X Premium subscription gets you videos up to 10 minutes long — not the multi-hour limit you see quoted everywhere else. X's help page on longer videos for Premium subscribers puts both numbers in the same breath: "Subscribers can upload videos up to 4 hours long (1080p) on x.com and X for iOS. Subscribers can upload videos up to 10 minutes long on Android."

Most articles about X's video limits quote the first sentence and drop the second. That second sentence is the one that explains why your 25-minute clip was refused on a phone and went up fine from a laptop on the same account.

The limits, at a glance

The 10-minute cap is a Premium cap, not an Android cap

• Free accounts have no platform split at all. The same help page says: "If you aren't a Premium subscriber, you can still upload videos up to 140 seconds long on any platform." A different page adds the size: "you can still upload videos up to 140 seconds long with a maximum file size of 512MB." On a free account, Android, iOS and the web all sit at the same ceiling.
• The split only appears inside the Premium benefit. X's About X Premium page describes the benefit this way: "Longer video uploads: Share more content with your followers. Premium subscribers can upload videos up to ~3 hours long and up to 8GB file size (1080p) (on x.com and X for iOS only)."
• Android is not excluded from long uploads — it has a lower number. X states 10 minutes, not zero. A 9-minute clip from the Android app is within the stated cap.

One more scoping detail that gets lost: the same About X Premium page lists "longer posts and longer video uploads" among the features included with Basic, so the benefit is not described as exclusive to a higher tier. X does not publish separate video-length numbers for each Premium tier, so if you need the figure for your specific plan, check the official documentation rather than a third-party table.

X's own pages give different maximums

This is not a typo on one page — several X-owned pages state different ceilings, and all of them are live:

• The help centre video page: "Premium subscribers are able to upload videos shorter than 4 hours at 1080p with a maximum file size of 16GB."
• The same page on the 2–4 hour band: "Premium subscribers are also able to upload videos above 2 hours and under 4 hours at 720p with a maximum file size of 16GB."
• The About X Premium page: "up to ~3 hours long and up to 8GB file size (1080p)".
• The developer documentation's media table: tweet_video and amplify_video at "0.5 seconds–125 minutes" and 16 GB for Premium / verified accounts.

125 minutes, ~3 hours and 4 hours are three different answers. The Media Studio help page draws its own boundary: "These instructions are only valid for Media Studio, and should not be followed for usage of the X developer API, Pro Media API, desktop upload, or mobile upload."

What is consistent: on the pages quoted here, 10 minutes is the only upload figure X states for Android. The longer figures differ in scope as well as in size — the About X Premium page writes "(on x.com and X for iOS only)", while the help centre videos page and the developer documentation's 125-minute row name no platform at all. For the exact ceiling on your account today, check the official documentation.

What to do when a clip won't fit on Android

In order of how much they cost you:

1. Trim the clip to fit the stated 10-minute cap.
2. Post it from x.com or from X for iOS if you have access to either. That is not a workaround — it is the split X documents.
3. Re-export smaller before you upload. X's own advertiser upload guidance is blunt about size being a problem even below the ceiling: "Even if your file is under our maximum size, we may still have issues ingesting the file. Reducing the size of the file reduces the time of the upload, maximizing your chances for success." The method it recommends is the obvious one: "Re-export your video file in a smaller size. An easy way to do this is to reduce the bitrate."

Note that X does not publish a file size figure to go with the 10-minute Android cap. The 8GB figure is the one written "(on x.com and X for iOS only)"; neither it nor the 16GB figure is stated for Android. So if a shorter-than-10-minute clip still fails from the Android app, size is worth ruling out even though there is no published number to aim at.

Platform-specific gotchas

• Captions are a web-only upload. X's page on adding an .srt caption file ends with: "Note: Currently this feature is available on web only." So an Android post is not the place to attach a subtitle file.
• 1080p playback is tied to the subscription, not to your export. The developer documentation states: "Subscribed users can upload a 1080p video and get 1080p playback. Unsubscribed users can upload a 720p video and get a 720p playback."
• X reserves the right to re-encode what you upload. In its own words, it may "make changes in order to adapt it to different media, including modifying the resolution and bitrate of the original video while streaming based on the speed and stability of the viewer's internet connection."
• .mov files are called out as the slow case. X's Media Studio help page — which, as quoted above, scopes itself to Media Studio — says: "This happens most often with .mov files. If possible, re-export files as .mp4, which should allow for overall faster upload and processing time." If you are handing X a QuickTime file straight off a phone or a Mac, MOV to MP4 does that conversion in the browser.
• Length is capped, count is not. X states: "There is no limit to the number of videos you can upload, even if all videos are the maximum length."
